Assalamualaikum everyone, I am excited to share my new knowledge in subject of Sustainable Development (SD), focusing on its definition, principles, evolution, and applications. A lot of key lessons from the lecture are:
Definition of Sustainable Development is meeting present needs without compromising future generations (Brundtland Report, 1987). It Integrates environmental, social, and economic considerations. Three Core Concepts of Sustainability are living within Earth’s limits (conserving resources), interconnection between economy, society, and environment (balanced development) and fair distribution of resources (equity across generations). Evolution of Sustainable Development is a transition from unsustainable development to MDGs then SDGs (2015). 17 SDGs address poverty, climate change, gender equality, and responsible consumption. The Five Pillars (5Ps) of SD are people which is equality & human dignity, planet is Environmental conservation, prosperity sustainable economic growth, peace: Justice & conflict resolution and partnership is collaboration among stakeholders. Systems Thinking in SD is a holistic approach to analyzing interconnected global challenges. It encourages long-term, sustainable policies to prevent environmental and social degradation. Debate on Development it between What to Sustain vs. Develop? we should be enhanced in technology, healthcare and education. In other hand, we should be preserved in cultural heritage and natural resources. For group activity, students formed groups to discuss sustainability challenges, apply systems thinking, and debate development priorities.
Ta’aruf Activity (Introduction & SD Reflections)
20 students participated in the Padlet Ta’aruf Activity, introducing themselves and sharing personal reflections on SD. The key Insights from student reflections are:
